Engineers Without Borders

Engineers Without Borders (EWB) international conference in Milwaukee Wisconsin

The four students who traveled are: Renn Lambert - junior in Env. Eng. Ashleigh Restad - junior in Env. Eng. Holli Sharp - junior in Civil Eng. Devin Stoker - junior in Civil Eng. The funds to travel to the conference came from the Dean's office as well as the students' personal funds. The students presented a poster based on their EWB project, attended three days of presentations and training sessions, and had a great opportunity to network with students and professional engineers in other EWB chapters from all over the country. I was also able to meet with staff from EWB headquarters and faculty mentors from other universities. Overall it was a fabulous learning experience for all of us. During the conference, there was a panel of representatives from companies like Boeing, CH2M-Hill, CDM, and Abbott Labs. All of them stated that they are actively seeking to hire students who have participated in EWB, because these employers value the additional skills in project management and design, and the international experience, that EWB provides.

Engineers Without Borders Students Provide Water & Lights For An Ugandan Orphanage

The Orphanage serves over 250 children in a remote area without clean water or electricity.  Children haul water from a marsh requiring a round trip of 1/4 mile up a steep grade.  Light is provided by kerosene lamps.  A USU team traveled to Uganda for about three weeks over Christmas break and installed a well, water tower, pump, water line, solar lights, and a solar TV/DVD educational system.
