| Project Summary: |
USU is the lead institution on a $1.5 million NSF Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation (NEES) grant to create and promote tools that will facilitate adoption of isolation and protective systems. Isolation systems have the potential to substantially reduce losses and disruptive societal impacts due to earthquakes be essentially eliminating the damage in a design level earthquake. The NEES TIPS, or Tools for Isolation and Protective Systems team, led by Principal Investigator Keri Ryan, will look at creative ways to reduce costs and decrease the complexity of the design process for these special systems. |
